| A River Avon runs through Bath. Avon is Celtic for "running water." There are many River Avons in England. This weir is for flood control.
The end of Pulteney Bridge is on the left. The bridge is lined with stores on both sides. |
We are about to get on the boat for the tour. The tour boat goes under the bridge and upriver for a two-hour tour of Somerset countryside. We turned around upriver near the village of Bathampton at a bridge too low for the boat. |

| Pulteney Bridge is a three-story building. Some of the shops at street level have lower rooms to them. The top floor is attic storage. | Looking through an arch as we pass under Pulteney Bridge. The far bridge is the one we walked across each day to get into town. |

| On a bus tour, the guide said offhandely, as we passed Sydney Park, that you could go through the park and onto a towpath along the Kennet and Avon Canal. About two miles down the towpath was a great pub, he said.
These lovely iron bridges cross the canal in Sydney Park. |
We headed north up the towpath looking for this great pub. |

This longboat is a full-time residence. Those flowering plants on the top are for sale.
|
When we had walked forever and about given the pub up, we came upon The George Inn. This had to be the place. We had walked all the way to Bathampton Village. |

| Note the thickness of the walls in the historic interior of The George. | The atmosphere was a step into long ago, and the food was great. I had my first and best cheese and chutney sandwich there. |

| Strolling Bath at night is a magical experience. . | We had our big meals at noon, and suppers were snacks in our B&B room. We are about to indulge in half a pasty, some peanuts, and hot tea. |

| A private longboat goes nose-up into the weir in front of Pulteney Bridge. | This boat tour covers the river below the weir and through the town. |

| The boat trip ends with sailing into the weir while music played. The rushing water and the beat of the music were pretty exciting. | Closer still. |

| Bob eyes the weir suspiciously. He's wondering how far that boat is going to go. | End of the trip and a fun experience. |
