Newlyn, Cornwall, England, continued
Fragan door Newlyn The Meadery 1 Newlyn
One of the many flower-framed doors in Fragan. We and Simons walked to The Meadery for dinner. The little bridge crossing the stream was a nice touch.
The Meadery 2 Newlyn
The Meadery 3 Newlyn
The theme and decorations of The Meadery are medieval. It's a fun place. Our fried mushrooms came in a medieval wooden trencher. You can eat everything with your fingers, if you want.
The Meadery 4 Newlyn
Bob view Newlyn
Stained glass and casks of good Cornish mead fill the end of the dining hall. Mead is brewed from honey. It's an ancient wine with a good poke to it. Bob starts out the day with a sunny seat before the view of Penzance. We took a trip to Penzance that day.
Penzance promenade 1
Penzance promenade 2
Here's ANOTHER one of my favorite places in Britain, the promenade along the harbor in Penzance.
Jeff, Pat, and Bob strike good tourist pose on the promenade. That sort of triangle thing above Pat's head is Mt. St. Michael.
Penzance promenade 3
Penzance boatyard
I got into the act, too. The Waterside Meadery is right on the water at the boat basin. This lane, at the end of the promenade, follows the coast about a mile to Marazion. The causeway to St. Michael's Mount starts at Marazion.
Mackeral Sky Penzance
Hell's Cove
The purple banner hanging down there marks the Mackeral Sky, a favorite tearoom of Jeff and Pat's. I had a scone with fresh strawberries sliced on it there. What a treat! While we were out for a drive with the Simons, we stopped at Hell's Cove, more of the rugged beauty of the Cornwall coast.
Hell's Cove
Minack night 1
The clear blue water looks like the Caribbean Sea. That night we attended a play, Pier Gynt, at the Minack Theater.
Minack night 2
Minack night 3
Jeff and Pat are Friends of Minack, so have prime seats practically on the stage. The custom is to come early with supper and wine. Bob is a two-fisted enjoyer. He's got a Cornish Pasty in one hand and a glass of wine in the other. From our seats, a view of the stage at twilight. The lady with the wine glass in lower left and her friend brought a whole elaborate dinner with them.

One needs wine and sustance. It gets pretty cold up there on top of the cliff after dark.
