| Ancient gravestones line the walk down to the church of St.-in-Roseland. | The church, too, is very old. It was dedicated in August of 1261. Many consider it to be the most beautiful church in England. |

| A summer wreath graces a timeworn door and carries on a custom of the ancients even before Christanity. | This vestibule archway leads to verdant tropical gardens and venerable gravestones that climb the steep hill behind the church. |

| The church and hill are covered with gravestones. It doesn't seem as if there is a spot where another person could be buried. | This view across the tidal pond is a popular photo spot. Note the palm tree by the tower. St. Just is in the farthermost south of Cornwall, and tropical plants thrive there. |

|
Crantock Commons and Cubert Commons together create a great moorland along the coast of Cornwall. They are both administered by the National Trust.

Amber strikes a classic pose in a patch of moore grasses. |

| These are open grazing lands, but there are some fences, and stiles to climb. | Nikki and I took a walk on Cubert Commons on our last day in Newquay. It was misty and mysterious, good weather for a novel. |

| Cubert Commons borders on Porth Joke, locally called Polly Joke. The inlet is favored by surfers, and the water was full of them that day. | All those little dots are surfers waiting for "the big one." |

| The rain got worse, and Nikki voted to head back. | We were soon joined by a parade of surfers who didn't like the weather, either. |

| It was pouring in earnest when I opened the gate leave the Commons. I thought it was rather fun. | |
| Crantock Village, Cornwall, England | |

| Nearly every morning Nikki and I took Amber for a run on Crantock Beach. Every morning we passed by this picture-book corner in Crantock Village. | Bob, I, and Nikki went to Crantock Village to stroll around the last afternoon we were in Newquay, and I got a good picture of the old thatched cottages. |

| Crantock is a pretty village, well worth a visit. The Old Albion Inn, a landmark in the area, is often photographed. I heard that it still had a lively business on Saturday nights. | |
