| This street, Albert Street, leads from the harbor to Thornloe. It serves vehicles going both ways, and pedestrians. More than once we flattened against the wall and turned in our toes when a truck came along. | The Caledonian MacBrayne ferries serve the far reaches of the Hebrides from Oban. |

| Scots Gaelic is a primary language on signs, though we didn't hear anyone speak it in Oban. It is, however, spoken on the Isle of Skye and some of the remote Hebridean islands. | A parade of local pipers marches proudly down Oban's main street. |
